Zippy and Myrna Bags

This class is an introduction to bag making, and intended for those who are comfortable using a sewing machine and wanting to branch out into making their own bags. We will use varying types of stabilizers, fabrics, and hardware to make beautifully unique bags. 

The Zippy Crossbody is a crossbody bag that features four zippered pockets, which is perfect for keeping hands-free and organized on busy days. This bag can be made in two sizes, either the full size at 8" wide, 8" high, and 1/2" deep, or the mini size at 8" wide, 6" high, and 1/2" deep. 

The Myrna Crossbody Bag is a lightly structured crossbody bag featuring boxed corners and a roomy interior to carry the everyday basics and more. The Myrna is Zippy's big sister, finishing at 9" wide, 10" high, and 1-1/2" deep. 

Students will choose the Zippy or Myrna to make in class; the Zippy is confident beginner level, and the Myrna is intermediate level. 

SUPPLIES: 
-Basic sewing supplies (thread, seam ripper, pins, marking tool, etc.)
-Rotary Cutter
-Fabric Scissors
-Sewing machine
-materials and hardware according to pattern - see below or check chosen pattern envelope

Zippy Materials:
-3/8 yard fabric for exterior
-3/8 yard lining fabric (quilting cotton recommended)
-2/3 yard fusible woven interfacing (such as fusible fleece; do not use if using cork or faux leather)
-1/2" Sallie Tomato Style 3 Basic Hardware Kit - OR - (2) 1/2" Swivel Hooks, (2) 1/2" D-Rings, and (1) 1/2" slider buckle (or whatever width is appropriate for your chosen webbing, if using webbing)
-4 zippers -OR - zipper tape with zipper pulls if making your own zipper
-1 1/2 yards woven webbing if desired for strap

Myrna Materials:
-1/3 yard or 1 Fat Quarter of main fabric (front bottom, back, slip pocket, and strap connector)
-1/4 yard contrast (front top, front middle, back bottom, zipper tabs, and crossbody strap)
-1 1/2 yards woven webbing for strap if desired for strap
-1/2 yard fusible woven interfacing
-5/8 yard lining fabric
-3/4" Sallie Tomato Style 4 Basic Hardware Kit -OR- (2) 3/4" D-rings, (2) 3/4" swivel hooks*, (1) 3/4" slider buckle*, and (1) 1/2" magnetic snap (*pick whatever size of hardware fits your chose strap if using webbing)
-3 zippers - OR - zipper tape with zipper pulls if making your own zipper

Optional Supplies 
-denim or leather needle, depending on chosen fabrics
-Ruler (6 x 24- or any size quilting ruler)
-Sewing Clips
-Stiletto tool
-chalk or removable pen
-basting glue
