FIVE EIGHTH SEAMS SEWING CLASS CANCELLATION POLICY
Date of Policy: 1/2021
PURPOSE: To establish appropriate deposit charges for all of our scheduled classes. To establish cancellation charges when reservations are made and then cancelled, which result in a loss of monies for our instructors.
DEPOSITS: Classes are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. Full payment of class is required to hold reservations. Cost of class is based upon the particular class and is at the discretion of the instructor.
CANCELLATION POLICIES:
Weather: Weather related refunds will only be awarded so long as there’s a mandatory evacuation of our city, a state of emergency for our area, or we’ve decided to close the store because of various hazards.
Illness: We will recognize emergency illness as an excuse to miss class, but classes cannot be made up unless approved by the instructor.
Non-emergency: Non-emergency cancellations will not be refunded nor will you be allowed to make up the class you missed.
REFUNDS:
Individual classes that are a part of a series (i.e. Sewing 101/102 and Advanced Sewing) cannot be refunded for any reason. If you have to miss a class, your instructor will decide if it can be made up.
For project classes:
Up to 48 hours before class: Full refund is granted only if we can fill your space in the class. We keep a waiting list and will call on your behalf. If we cannot fill your space, you will only be refunded 50% of your deposit.
Within 48 hours before class: No refunds will be issued within 48 hours of the class starting. If you can find someone to fill your space, we’ll gladly accept them and they can pay you (acting as your refund).
This deposit/cancellation policy is not designed to deter people from making class reservations at Five Eighth Seams. Rather, it enables us to be a better business in regards to filling our class capacity. Many times sewers are turned away after a class fills and if a cancellation occurs, it results in loss of revenue for our dedicated instructors who’ve made special arrangements to be at the store outside of their normal working hours.
What people are saying about us
"Love your store! I live in Georgetown and will make the 75 mile drive to you because your staff and products are awesome! Your staff was so very nice and helpful. Loved the choice of children's patterns and material. Cute, cute, cute trims and laces, just what I was looking for! I am making my second trip there this week! A must stop if in Charleston area and you sew." - Molly Jones, March 2017
"I am so glad I found this store. This is my second attempt a taking sewing classes and I learned more in 2 hours at 5/8 than I have ever learned at Hancock's (out of business). Looking forward to the next class and learning more. Hopefully I'll get good enough to invest in one of those Husqvarna machines. Thanks Brooke. You are a riot." -Shere Hills , January 2017
"Decided to finally buy myself a Husqvarna Viking serger. Came back two days later and bought me a fabulous sewing machine too. I couldn't be happier with my purchases and with the help from the skilled staff. Love this place." - Mary Copeland Boykin, August 2016
"All of the staff are well informed on every aspect and if they happen to not know an answer to a question, they will find someone who can! They are very patient teachers and the shop is a very great place to learn new techniques and brush up on old ones!" - Cheryl Clayton, January 2016
"I have gone here for classes & fabric since they opened. I love the atmosphere in there and as an aspiring fashion designer in Charleston, it is great that i can find great patterns & fabric here. They have also taught me so much. Highly Recommend to everyone! - Jeanne A. Everett, December 2013
