T-Shirt Quilt Prep Class
Class Description: This is a technique class. You will learn how to prepare your favorite t-shirts to use in
a quilt. We will be preparing t-shirts and exploring resources and possible layouts. Chrissy will show you
how to use prepared t-shirts for quilt. A pre-requisite for this class is Sewing 101, and all fabric and
interfacing are to be purchased at Five Eighth Seams.
Pattern/Book: Chrissy will provide you a handout with reminders and tips
Fabric Requirements:
Entire T-Shirts DO NOT CUT them prior to class. Bring several but it is not imperative for you
to bring them all since we are only going over the technique of preparing the t-shirt for your
quilt
Fusible Interfacing Pellon SF101 Shap-Flex Cotton Woven Fusible or Pellon 906F Fusible; if you
intend to eventually make the whole quilt, you will need at lead 5 yards of fusible interfacing
Sewing supplies:
Rotary cutter
22” or longer ruler
Fabric scissorsthese will be used to take t-shirt apart so your best scissors aren’t necessary
12 x 12 or 14 x14 larger square ruler; you may also get one large sheet of template plastic and a
fine line marker to make a block/t-shirt template
Machine is optional this class as is thread; it is unlikely that you will be fully prepped with the t-
shirts to start sewing
Pressing cloth: this is for pressing the t-shirts so that the design does not melt off; this can be a
large piece of scrap fabric or muslin
